Wednesday 24th June, 2020

IN THE NAME OF ALLAH, THE MOST GRACIOUS AND MOST MERCIFUL

The Office of National Chief Imam and Grand Mufti of the Republic of Ghana (ONCI) prays that this press release finds all Ghanaians in good condition and on high spirit.

The ONCI wishes to announce to the Ghanaian populace particularly the Muslim community, the decision of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to limit Hajj to only residents within the Kingdom.

The ONCI supports the decision of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and commends the Guardian of the Two Holy Mosques, HRH KING SALMAN for the wise decision and appropriate action taken.

It is the understanding and beliefs of His Eminence the National Chief Imam of Ghana, Sheikh Prof. Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia took this decision to protect Muslims around the world from contracting the deadly and contagious COVID-19 disease.

We pray to Allah to continue to protect and bless the two Holy Mosques, the Guardian and Muslims around the World.

FACT AND BASIS OF THE PRESS RELEASE

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia announced, on Monday, the 22nd of June 2020, that this year's Hajj has been restricted to a very limited number of people, specifically those already residing within the Kingdom.

This is as a result of the proliferating COVID-19 cases across the globe, the lack of vaccines and the need to keep social distancing protocols among millions of pilgrims coming from across the globe, all in an effort to preserve lives which is in accordance with Islamic principles.

In as much as Hajj is obligatory on physically strong and financially sound Muslims at least once in their life time, this year's Hajj with COVID-19 poses a threat to human health as pilgrims are crowded at religious sites.

We pray to Allah to prolong our lives with great health to witness yet many more Hajj.

Sincerely yours,

Alhaji Khuzaima Mohammed Osman

Personal Assistant (PA) to the National Chief Imam of Ghana.

Executive Secretary of the Tijjaniya Muslims Movement of Ghana (TMMG).
