COMPLIANCE WITH DIRECTIVES ON COVID-19

In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate and the Most Merciful

In the wake of the coronavirus, known officially as Covid-19, His Eminence the National Chief Imam and Grand Mufti of the Republic of Ghana, Sheikh Prof. Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, in consultation with Muslim Stakeholders (the Regional Chief Imams, the National Imam of Ahlus-Sunnah Wal Jamaa, the National Imam of Shia, the Ameer and Missionary-In-Charge of the Ahamaddiyya Muslim Mission in Ghana, and the President of the Tijjaniya Muslims of Ghana) has observed that Islam places premium on the health and sanctity of human life.

In response to the presidential directives on the pandemic, therefore, His Eminence has arrived at the following:

1. The outbreak of COVID-19 has become a global threat which requires necessary action to be taken to confront it to preserve lives and property.

2. Jumuah prayers in Ghana have been suspended beginning 20th March 2020 for the next four weeks.

3. All religious and social gatherings should be suspended until the outbreak is contained.

4. His Eminence the National Chief Imam himself would neither be observing any Friday prayers nor attending any social gathering exceeding 25 persons henceforth.

5. The situation is being monitored, and further directives would be issued when necessary.

His Eminence further directs that all Imams and religious leaders pray to Allah fervently to pardon us, grant the world peace, and protect humanity from all kinds of diseases and calamities.

May Allah grant us long life, good health, and abundant prosperity.
